길은 떠나기 위해서 존재하는 것이 아니라
돌아오기 위해서 존재하는 것이다.
인간이 길을 만들기 이전에는 모든 공간이 길이었다.
인간은 길을 만들고 자신들이 만든 길에 길들여져 있다.
그래서 이제는 자신들이 만든 길이 아니면 길이 아니라고 생각한다.
하나의 인간은 하나의 길이다.
하나의 사물도 하나의 길이다.
선사들은 묻는다.
어디로 가십니까,
어디서 오십니까. 그러나 대답할 수 있는 자들은 흔치 않다.
때로 인간은 자신이 실종되어 있다는 사실조차 모르고 길을 간다.
인간은 대개 길을 가면서 동반자가 있기를 소망한다.
어떤 인간은 동반자의 짐을 자신이 짊어져야만
발걸음이 가벼워지고 어떤 인간은
자신의 짐을 동반자가 짊어져야만 발걸음이 가벼워진다.
길을 가는 데 가장 불편한 장애물은
바로 자기 자신이라는 장애물이다.
험난한 길을 선택한 인간은 길을 가면서
자신의 욕망을 버리는 일에 즐거움을 느끼고
평탄한 일을 선택한 인간은 길을 가면서
자신의 욕망을 채우는 일에 즐거움을 느낀다.
전자는 갈수록 마음이 너그러워지고
후자는 갈수록 마음이 옹졸해진다.
지혜로운 자의 길은 마음 안에 있고
어리석은 자의 길은 마음 밖에 있다.
아무리 길이 많아도 종착지는 하나다.
